Getting Started with CCP

We’re glad you’re here!

Welcome to the Career and College Promise (CCP) program! We are thrilled to support you on your academic journey.

You’ll be considered a full Cape Fear Community College student, just like our traditional students. With this status comes responsibility and a lot of information to absorb. Please review the information below carefully to make the most of your CCP experience and set yourself up for success.

We know this is a lot of information, but this is college! Take some time to read and explore the details provided. If you have questions, please reach out to your Career Coach .

STEP 1 Start the Application Process

All courses in the University Transfer Pathways will transfer to UNC system schools under the Statewide Comprehensive Articulation Agreement , provided the student earns a grade of C or higher. Career and Technical Education Pathways count towards a community college certificate, diploma, or degree program, but most are not college transferable.

Please note: This is a two-step application process involving the CFNC Application and the Docusign Approval Form.

After completing both application steps, ensure your parent checks their email to confirm their part of the agreement electronically. Once all applications and supporting documents are submitted, please allow 7-10 business days for processing.

Upon receiving your acceptance email, follow the steps provided to create your myCFCC account.

STEP 2 Register for Classes

Access this video tutorial on the Self-Registration Process through Self-Service .

Once accepted into the Career and College Promise Program, you may only register for classes listed in your chosen pathway(s). Registering for classes outside your pathway will result in a hold on your account and removal of those courses from your schedule. Watch this video tutorial on understanding pathway compliance.

College courses are available in various formats: in-person, hybrid (online and in-person), or fully online. Watch this video for a breakdown of Section Codes and Class Types. Baccalaureate Degree Plans for the UNC System Universities help you transition from an associate degree to a bachelor’s degree.

View the Dual Credit Allowance Chart and Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) for college transfer courses. This chart shows what’s needed to satisfy core NC high school graduation requirements with CFCC courses. Many high school credits require multiple CFCC courses. Consult your high school counselor for details.

STEP 3 After You’ve Registered

View the Academic Calendar to know all drop and withdrawal deadlines for your courses.

Your college course will be available in Canvas on the first day of the semester. In Canvas, you’ll find your syllabus, assignment due dates, announcements, gradebook, and more. New students should watch the Canvas Orientation video .

Please note the CFCC grading scale below. Final grades are awarded as letter grades, which your high school will convert for your transcript. See the conversion chart here .

For online, blended, or hybrid courses, you must complete the Enrollment Verification quiz to stay enrolled. This quiz is available in Canvas on the first day of the semester. If not completed by the Census Date, you will be dropped from the course. Learn more about starting an online course.

Tuition is waived for dual-enrolled students, but you are responsible for all fees (technology, activity, parking/security). Payments are due to the CFCC Business Office by the deadlines posted on the Academic Calendar. Failure to pay fees will result in removal from courses. You are also responsible for purchasing textbooks and supplies. Transportation funding is not available. CCP students can apply for CFCC scholarships to cover fees and textbooks.

If you forget your password, contact the CFCC IT HelpDesk .

STEP 4 Review Student Responsibilities

As a Cape Fear Community College student, you agree to follow college policies. Read the CFCC Catalog and Student Handbook to review these policies. It is your responsibility to communicate academic concerns with your instructors through your CFCC email.

All communication with the college must be conducted through your CFCC student email.

As a dual-enrolled Career and College Promise (CCP) student, you need to balance high school and college classes. Check your college email daily and review all information carefully. All correspondence will be sent to and must be received through your CFCC student email account. Do not allow anyone else, including parents/guardians, to access your CFCC email or portal. ( See Acceptable Use Policy. )

Student-athletes in certified sports under the North Carolina High School Association (NCHSA) must meet eligibility requirements. Seek guidance from your high school Athletic Director before taking college courses to ensure academic and athletic eligibility. Your academic performance at CFCC affects athletic eligibility, scholarships, and future financial aid. All classes taken in this program become part of your permanent college record. Poor performance can negatively impact financial aid eligibility and transfer opportunities.

CFCC offers resources to help you succeed. The North and Downtown Campuses have Learning Labs and in-person tutoring. Request a Learning Lab Tutor for assistance . Online tutoring is available through ThinkingStorm Online Tutoring .

STEP 5 Review Parent Responsibilities

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects student education records’ privacy. Under FERPA, rights to student educational records transfer to the student when they turn 18 or attend school beyond high school.f This means CCP students, regardless of age, control their educational records once enrolled in CFCC courses. Parents/guardians cannot access these records without written consent from the student.

A FERPA release form allows a third party to review a student’s records but does not let them manage the student’s education or registration at CFCC. Only the student should contact college staff or faculty regarding enrollment, assignments, etc., using their CFCC email. To fill out a FERPA release form, students can contact their Career Coach for assistance.

By enrolling in this program, you and your parents/guardians confirm your readiness for dual enrollment. This includes reviewing course syllabi, adhering to course policies, attendance, deadlines, and grading rubrics. College classes place more responsibility on the student, with varying attendance and grading policies by class and instructor. Most instructors do not accept late work or allow resubmissions. Be prepared for stricter policies than in high school.

Your success is important to us. We are excited to support you throughout this program. Review all the information on our website, stay in touch with any questions , self-advocate, and use all CFCC resources available to you. We look forward to celebrating your success!
