Welcome to Cape Fear Community College! We’re excited to guide you through our enrollment process for F-1 student admissions. In the following sections, you’ll find essential information about application deadlines, available programs, and the steps you need to take to enroll successfully.

Application Steps for International Students
Step 1
Complete Online Admissions ApplicationProspective F-1 students should select F1 – Academic Student as their Immigration Status on the Citizenship section of the admissions application.
You will need to decide on your program of study/degree program.

Associate in Arts | An AA degree is the broadest degree CFCC offers, giving students the opportunity to take a wide variety of required transferable courses appropriate to all fields. It’s ideal for students who are undecided on a future major. Associate in Fine Arts – Music | For students seeking a four-year degree in music, CFCC’s Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) in Music program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in music. | Associate in Fine Arts (Music) Webpage |
Associate in Fine Arts – Theatre | The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) in Theatre program offers students the opportunity to choose between a performance focus and a technical theater focus. Associate in Fine Arts – Visual Arts | The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) in Visual Arts program is for students planning to pursue major study in the arts at the four-year level. This degree offers strong foundational instruction in art with emphasis on visual literacy, technical and observational skills, critical thinking, and artistic expression. Associate in Applied Science in Graphic Design | Students will be trained in the development of concept, layout, and design for promotional materials such as magazine and newspaper advertisements, posters, letterhead, corporate branding, brochures, booklets, and more. Step 2
Steps 2 and 3 are completed after you apply to the college. You will need to upload the required documentation to CFCC’s student portal. You will have access to create an account and submit your documents after you’ve submitted your application. You will be notified by email to create your account.
Proof of Financial Evidence
- Evidence should prove your ability to cover CFCC’s out-of-state cost of attendance for at least one year of tuition, fees and living expenses, plus required funds for dependents ($5,000 each dependent).
- Evidence must be in the form of a bank statement signed by a bank official.
- Documentation must be in english and converted to U.S. dollars.
- Documents must be in the account holder’s name.
- If you are being sponsored to cover financial costs, your sponsor must submit an Affidavit of support.
Step 3
Steps 2 and 3 are completed after you apply to the college. You will need to upload the required documentation to CFCC’s student portal. You will have access to create an account and submit your documents after you’ve submitted your application. You will be notified by email to create your account.
Complete the International Student Medical Form (form is completed when you access CFCC’s student portal when submitting documents).

Steps 5 & 6 must be submitted from an approved organization directly to CFCC.
Submit English Language Requirements (must meet one of the following)
- A minimum total score of 71 on the TOEFL iBT Test
- A minimum total score of 8 on TOEFL Essentials
- A minimum overall band score of 6.0 on the IELTS
- A minimum score of 95 on the Duolingo English Test (DET)
- A minimum score of 54 on the Pearson PTE
*Students who have obtained their secondary school diploma and/or bachelor’s degree from a country on the English Language requirement exemptions list are exempt from this requirement.
*Official Score reports must be submitted from the testing agency directly to CFCC.
Step 6
Submit Official Educational Documents
- Foreign transcripts must be evaluated and translated (if applicable), by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services ( naces.org ) or a current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators ( aice-eval.org ). Completed evaluations, along with copies of the original documents, should be sent directly from the evaluation agency to CFCC Admissions.
Step 7
Pay Non-Refundable $50.00 International Student Application Fee
*Admitted applicants will receive an official acceptance letter and Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant student status (Form 1-20) from Cape Fear Community College. Once you receive the I-20, you need to make a visa appointment for a nonimmigrant F-1 visa with the U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country or submit a change-of-status application to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
